Bridgeport Brewery Tours - FREE!
Wednesday - Saturday from 12 noon - 7pm: free brewery tours! Oregon's oldest craft brewery®, BridgePort® Brewing Company was founded in 1984 (that's a long time ago in craft brewing). The brewery and adjacent BrewPub are located in Portland's historic Pearl District at 1313 NW Marshall Street, 10 blocks from hostel! 

Widmer Bros Brewery Tour - FREE!
Fridays at 3:00 p.m. Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m (starting Feb 2, 08 the 12 p.m. tour will be moving to 12:30 p.m.).  Brothers Kurt and Rob Widmer founded Widmer Brothers Brewing Company back in 1984, and have been brewing deliciously authentic European and American style beers for over 20 years.

Saturday Market (and Sundays too) - FREE!
Rain or shine, Portland Saturday Market is open every Saturday and Sunday for arts and crafts shopping and just plain fun from March until Christmas Eve. Get the special opportunity of meeting the artisans who have ...'made it, baked it, or grown it'. Listen to local musicians while finding some good food at the International Food Court. Located in the heart of Old Town, underneath the Burnside Bridge. 108 W. Burnside Street, 503-222-6072.

Farmers' Market -  FREE!
The city's open-air hub for lovers of locally-grown and produced foods, flowers and plant stock. See website for schedule of chef demonstrations and special events.

Oregon Zoo 
On the 2nd Tuesday of every month (2-Buck Tuesday) guests can tour the zoo during regular zoo hours for the discounted price of $2 per person!

First Thursday Art Gallery Opening - FREE!!
Every first Thursday in the Pearl
District. Meet the artists and join the street party for gallery receptions and openings introducing the works of many artists. The Pearl, Portland's arts district just down the street from the hostel, used to be an area of old warehouses and lots filled with weeds and litter. It is now Portland’s Mecca of culture and creativity. It is home to a rich variety of art galleries, specialty shops, restaurants, and art schools.

Last Thursday Art Walk - FREE!
Every last Thursday on NE Alberta Street. Another emerging center of creativity in Portland buzzes with activity on the last Thursday of each month during the aptly named "Last Thursday" art walk. Galleries, clothing boutiques and cafes dot this constantly evolving area.

FEBRUARY

Portland International Film Festival
Each February, the Portland International Film Festival premiers nearly 100 films from 30 countries. Venues throughout Portland.

Portland Jazz Festival
The Portland Jazz Festival is a celebration of jazz music, Black History Month, and the City of Portland. Throughout the Festival schedule there are numerous educational opportunities for individuals. During these programs, instructors and educators will explore jazz and the African American experience with area students, musicians and the public.

Kells St. Patrick's Day Festival
Kells Irish Restaurant and Pub hosts the most popular annual Saint Patrick’s event on the West Coast.  Renowned as one of the Top Ten Irish Establishments in America, Kells always delivers the best of Irish entertainment.  

APRIL

Spring Beer and Wine Festival
The Spring Beer & Wine Fest is the nation's largest "Springtime" alcoholic event held annually at Easter time at the comfortable Oregon Convention Center in Portland, OR. This event is all about educating your taste buds by sampling and comparing a variety of drink from hand-crafted beer, wine, cider, mead, and distilled spirits.

Earth Day Celebration
Come to Portland's biggest community Earth Day Celebration! City Repair's sixth annual Earth Day Celebration of Localization is held on the grounds of Sunnyside Environmental School, located at SE 34th & Salmon.  Join us for 60+ local sustainable VENDORS, three stages of LIVE MUSIC, the KIDS VILLAGE, the BETTER TRANSPORTATION FAIR, a FARMERS MARKET and more!

Cinco de Mayo Celebration
Celebrate the culture and excitement of Mexico with Hispanic entertainment, music, dancers and food. Gov. Tom McCall Waterfront Park.
 

Portland Rose Festival - FREE!
Starting at the end of May and lasting through the mid of June, the Portland Rose Festival offers fireworks, parades, waterfront festival, a juried arts show and more. Events take place throughout the Portland area. Don't miss the Grand Floral Parade: The nation's second largest all-floral parade features spectacular floats, many of which are animated.

Waterfront Blues Festival
Every 4th of July weekend: This popular festival features 75 bands over five days. Spectacular fireworks display on July 4. Tom McCall Waterfront Park.
 

Oregon Brewers Festival
North America's largest gathering of craft brewers. Music, entertainment, and tastings of more than 70 brews Gov. Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Regarded by many as one of the finest craft beer festivals in the nation, each summer, the beautiful city of Portland, Oregon welcomes more than 50,000 beer lovers to the four-day event. Aficionados come from all over the country and the world to experience this grassroots festival, which began as a way to expose the public to microbrews at a time when the craft brewing industry was just getting off the ground.

International Brewers Festival
The Portland International Beer Festival is an over-the-top beer festival celebrating the world’s most legendary brewing styles and the nations that made them famous. Come taste over 100 world-class beers from more than 15 countries.  The beers of The Portland International Beer Festival represent all that’s possible in the world of brewing. Many are quite obscure yet hold their own place in world history as the birth of a new brewing style.

AUGUST

Homowo Festival of African Arts
Music, dance, crafts and food from several African nations. South Park Blocks.

Rose Pedal
This weeklong bicycling event culminates with Bridge Pedal, a 28-mile long ride that crisscrosses eight of the 10 bridges spanning the Willamette River. Other activities include "Bike-In Movies", during which area parks become drive-in theaters for cyclists, and children's bike events. Throughout Portland. Rent a bike and get the second day free with your Hostelling International card!

Hood to Coast
The Hood To Coast Relay is the ultimate adventure run! The largest relay race in North America, its stretches 197 miles from the top of Oregon's Mt. Hood, down to the Pacific Ocean, in Seaside, Oregon, over 12,000 runners show up to experience this annual event, now in its 25th year.  Relay teams of 12-people each, come from around the world to participate in the Fred Meyer Hood To Coast Relay as well as our Partner events, the Portland To Coast Walk and the Nationwide Insurance Portland To Coast High School Challenge. Each race allows for a diversity of participants, from the serious runners / fitness walkers to casual teams out simply to enjoy the adventure.

SEPTEMBER

MusicFest NW
4 days, over 100 bands, 1 wristband!!!  MusicfestNW is a non-profit music festival that gives proceeds after the event to First Octave, a local charity that supports music education in our schools.  

OCTOBER

Greek Festival - FREE!
Food booths, tavern, live entertainment, folk dancing, a gourmet bake shop, and church tours. Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

Portland Marathon
One of America's best marathons, the Portland Marathon also includes a 26.2-mile walk, a five-mile run, a 10K walk, and a kids' run. Downtown Portland.

DECEMBER

Winter Brewfest
Special brews to keep you warm on a cold winters night.  This annual festival is held each year in the first part of December. The 2006 festival dates will be posted soon so please check back often. Despite chilly temperatures and often-inclement weather outside, attendees stay warm and dry at the festival under a large clear tent that covers the venue while allowing for views of the city lights. Gas heaters create a cozy ambience under the boughs of one of the region's largest decorated Christmas trees. More than thirty potent winter ales are featured at the event, all of which are created specifically to bring warmth and cheer to the holiday season. The beers are rich, robust and full of complex flavors

Christmas at the Pittock Mansion
Tour this grand and elegant Portland landmark, which is extravagantly decorated with a different theme each year. Pittock Mansion.

The Grotto's Festival of Lights
250,000 lights, puppet shows and a petting zoo set the stage for the largest choral festival in the Pacific Northwest. The Grotto.

ZooLights Festival
See a dazzling display of sparkling lights and animal silhouettes. Ride the decorated zoo train. Oregon Zoo.
